The Sand Nativity Scene of Las Canteras Beach, promoted by the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has just received its first visitors today, Thursday the 5th of December, in the area of La Puntilla, including six christmas scenes, made by 6 international sculptors who used 2000 tons of sand on a surface of 1500 square metres. The Nativity Scene, on its eigth edition, will give the donations given by visitors until next 6th of January to the four social soup kitchens of the Grancanarian capital. 
City Councillor of Tourism of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero, Island Minister of Tourism of Gran Canaria, Melchor Camón, managing director of Promotur, María Méndez, and the business director of the area of Gran Canaria Centre of CaixaBank, Armando Rodríguez, made the official opening and strolled through the NSand Nativity Scene along with the sculptors of the images.
The traditional images of the Nativity Scene, the craddle, the three Wise Men, and the recreation of towns and traditional characters are mixed with local images of Gran Canaria like the Roque Nublo and the Caldera of Tejeda, as well as with endemic plants the sculptors wanted to reflect on their work.
The central image of the Nativity Scene, the Birth of Baby Jesus, was made by the Danish sculptor Peter Busch-Jensen; Russian sculptors Aleksei Dyakov, Vadim Gryadov and Mikhail Fedotov sculpted the images of the Three Wise Men, the Anunciation and the waterman at the fountain, respectively. Italian sculptor Michela Ciappini, modelled the fishing borough, and Canary sculptor Jonay Ruiz, created the town of Bethlehem and the announcing star.
Donations for the social soup kitchens of LPGC
The Sand Nativity Scene, that will be open every day from 9am to 9pm, looks forward to welcome more than one hundred thousand visitors during its four week of exhibition. Every donation given by visitors will be given to the four social soup kitchens of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
