Today, Tuesday the 7th of January, the Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Juan José Cardona, gave the 17.364,41€ of the donations collected at the Sand Nativity Scene of Las Canteras Beach to the people in charge of the four soup-kitchens of the city. Such donations were given by the visitors of the Nativy Scene during its 5 weeks of exhibitions. A total of 155672 people walked through the 1500m2 of this tourist “must” that is promoted by the Town Hall with the collaboration of the Vice-Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canaries, the Tourist Board of Gran Canaria and the Social Board of La Caixa.

The charity donations given by the citizenship of the Capital City and tourists will help to support the different projects of social aid carried out by these soup-kitchens of the parish of Santo Domingo, in Vegueta; San Pedro, in La Isleta; La Paz, in Las Rehoyas, and El Carmen, in the area of Parque Santa Catalina, that attend an average of 300 people every day.

The Sand Nativity Scene of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is fully consolidated after eight years of life as one of the city’s Christmas references, and one of the cultural and tourist resources visitors feel most attracted to see.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 8th of January, Las Canteras Beach will recover its normal image in the area of La Puntilla. Bulldozers will move the 2000 tons of sand to its original location, in the same beach, and the cleansing operators will take care of the area so that it keeps its high quality environmental conditions.

Five international sculptors, Danish Peter Busch-Jensen; Russians Aleksei Dyakov, Vadim Gryadov and Mikhail Fedotov; Italian Michela Ciappini and Canarian Jonay Ruiz, recreated the traditional Nativity scenes, the Crib, the Three Kings, towns and traditional characters mixed with a big central fountain and landscapes of Gran Canaria like Tejeda of the Roque Nublo.
